Belgrade, February 27, 2023 - ISO 50001 is an international standard that defines the requirements and guidelines for the successful development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of an energy management system in an organization.

With its application, companies establish a framework for structured control of energy consumption, achieve greater energy efficiency, reduce their costs and negative impact on the environment, primarily through saving resources, using renewable energy sources and reducing the impact on climate change.

Climate change and the importance of taking measures to reduce global warming was recognized by VINCI Airports, the leading global airport operator, thus in 2016 VINCI established an Environmental Strategy with the goal of achieving zero emissions of greenhouse gases at all airports within the group by 2050.

By launching this environmental strategy, the first of its kind in the airport sector, VINCI Airports made environmental protection, including the reduction of its carbon footprint through decarbonization and energy efficiency, one of its strategic priorities.

BELGRADE AIRPORT d.o.o. established a team for energy efficiency, decarbonization and environmental protection in 2022, an energy manager was appointed, internal processes supporting the energy management system were improved, in accordance with the requirements of the specified standard with the aim of providing energy efficient services.

In February 2023, BELGRADE AIRPORT d.o.o. was certified for the first time according to the ISO 50001:2018 standard for the provision of airport management services and ground handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, goods and mail.

This certificate obtained from the independent external certification body Bureau Veritas, has confirmed that BELGRADE AIRPORT has established an Energy Management System pursuant to the requirements of this standard and that it has adjusted its operations according to the requirements of the energy efficiency program.
