The works on the modernization of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport continues without major disruptions

Belgrade, June 4 2020 – At the beginning of the year, BELGRADE AIRPORT started with works on modernizing and expanding of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. Thanks to it’s extensive worldwide airport management experience, the parent company VINCI Airports will boost growth and create additional value for the passengers and partners of the main Serbian airport during the concession project. Modernisation works have been ongoing without major disruptions, even during the state of emergency, in accordance with all the recommendations and safety and health prevention measures prescribed by relevant authorities. Together with construction partner, VINCI Terna Construction JV and their subcontractors, BELGRADE AIRPORT have developed a specific plan to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic on the works dynamic and projected deadlines.

‘’We expect the major works to be executed over the next three years. These include terminal expansion, new, inserted runway and additional taxiways construction, additional aircraft parking positions, a new de-/anti-icing pad, additional car parking spaces, as well as new access roads. Thanks to the planned capacity upgrades the airport, which last year served around 6,2 million passengers, will be able to handle projected 15 million passengers at the end of the concession period. Our aim is to significantly improve the level of service, comfort and variety of commercial offers at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport.’’, stated Francois Berisot, CEO BELGRADE AIRPORT.

Currently, extensive works are progressing at several locations. The extension of the existing terminal building (Pier C) will improve the airport capacity, the functionality and the comfort for the passengers and the airlines. Furthermore, upgrade of our aprons is also in progress, so it will increase the capacity to park more aircrafts simultaneously. Estimated value of these works is around RSD 5 bn. Additionally, preparatory works for the construction of the new, inserted runway started a few days ago. All these works are organized to have limited impact on scheduled air traffic, once it is restored.

Next stages of the project will include a strong focus on eco-friendly businesses in order to reduce environmental impact in terms of CO2, water and waste. A new power plant will be built to produce heat and electricity, which will shift from heavy fuels to more environmentally friendly energy sources and reduce emissions. The plan also includes a solar power plant, as well as solid waste and wastewater treatment plants.

Over the next 25 years BELGRADE AIRPORT will bring to Nikola Tesla Airport the international experience and good practice of our parent company VINCI Airports, the leading private airport operator in the world managing the development and operation of 45 airports worldwide.
